Designed to work with Apperson DataLink 1200
DataLink Scanner
A macOS app that reads answer sheets from an Apperson DataLink 1200 over USB, scores them against an answer key, and shows which questions a class actually struggled with.
Getting help
Questions, problems and requests all go to the issue tracker. It helps to say which version you are running, shown under Settings, and what the scanner's own display said at the time.
Before the scanner will read anything
Press Reset on the DataLink until its display reads Scan Mode Ready. The mode is chosen with that button, and nothing the app sends can change it. In the wrong mode the scanner holds the sheet, asks for its other side, and tells the app nothing at all, which looks from the Mac like the app has stopped working.
Common things
- No serial port listed. The DataLink uses a USB-to-serial chip. Unplug it, plug it back in, and reopen the port menu.
- Sheets feed but nothing is recorded. A session has to be running. Name the test, pick the class, then press Start.
- A sheet came through with no name. Open Review. The ID and name can be corrected there, and the roster fills the name in once the ID is right.
- No scanner to hand. The Paper tab reads a PDF of scanned sheets instead.
